Male Reproductive System

The reproductive system is what enables procreation in both men and women. There are organs called reproductive organs and they are what bring about the ability to procreate. In men, the reproductive organ is more visible than women. As a man, you should know about the anatomy of your reproductive system too other than having the knowledge of this organ for sex. The long shaft of the male organ called the penis has a sensitive head known as the glands which has an opening in it. It is through this opening that the urethra leads outside the body.

The urethra performs two major functions in the body of a male animal. It performs the function of carrying urine away from the bladder and it also performs the function of carrying semen produced in the testes through the vas deferens. Nature has however so wonderfully made it that these functions are never performed at the same time. Whenever the penis is fully erected, there is a small muscle that closes off the entrance that leads to the bladder so as to disallow the release of urine during sexual intercourse.

The penis in a male reproductive system would generally remain flaccid until the time of erection when it would be engorged with blood. The testes are responsible for the production of sperm cells, the gametes that are needed for fertilizing the ovum of a female anima. They also produce testosterone, the hormone responsible for libido in men.
